Our History

We can do all things through Christ is a belief that has guided Our Saviour from the beginning. Over the many years since it was founded in 1924, Our Saviour has been a community based on the knowledge that God’s love for humanity knows no bounds, and that with God all things are possible.

We all love our simple wooden church, but no one would ever mistake it for a medieval cathedral or an attempt at Gothic architecture. And there’s a reason for that! The women and men who built the Church of Our Saviour did it themselves. Bypassing years of construction and fundraising, they opened their Sears Roebuck Catalog and ordered a barn kit with a “steeple” option. When it arrived in pre-cut and -fitted form, they added plumbing and electricity, carpentry, and ecclesiastical interior design. Voila! The Church of Our Saviour was born and consecrated, and the woman who signed the mortgage later became one of the first women ever to serve on the Vestry of an Episcopal church.
